CHARLESTON, WV -

William R. Slicer, a managing member of Shuman McCuskey & Slicer, has been awarded the prestigious Client Distinction Award from Martindale-Hubbell, an information services company to the legal profession founded in 1868.

Fewer than 4 percent of the more than 900,000 attorneys listed on Martindale.com and Lawyers.com have been accorded this honor of distinction. It comes following clients' surveys on lawyer's communications ability, responsiveness and quality of service.

Slicer was awarded the company's highest rating of Preeminent AV 5.0 based on a peer review among attorneys and judges. The rating denotes Slicer's adherence to the highest ethical standards and an achievement of excellence in legal ability.

A graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law, Slicer also holds degrees from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Davidson College.

He has been defending national and local companies including the coal industry for nearly a quarter century. He has litigation experience including the defense of catastrophic accident cases, product liability cases, employment discrimination and harassment cases, and exposure cases involving dust, asbestos, silica and chemicals.

His work in the mining industry follows in the footsteps of his late grandfather, Robert G. Kelly, a nationally recognized lawyer and founder of Jackson, Kelly, Holt & O'Farrell.

He is a member of Charleston Rotary, Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia, the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation, West Virginia Coal Association and Friends of Coal.
