CHARLESTON, WV -

Rain and snow move in well before 12 a.m. Saturday morning.  We should see a quick inch or so of snow with a peak amount of two inches in areas such as Vinton, Athens, northern Meigs,, northern Jackson OH, and Pike counties in Ohio.  Snow amounts will taper off as you go south.  South of I-64 accumulating snow will be hard to find outside of grassy areas in the early portion of Saturday.

Expect a surge of warmer air taking highs to about 40 in the Charleston-Huntington-Logan-Pikeville area with upper 30s in surrounding areas.  So melting during the day is expected along with more rain.  So far we do not think there will be the kind of rain that causes widespread flooding like last weekend.

Fans going to the Capital Classic should expect mainly wet roads and to take an umbrella while making their way into the Charleston Civic Center.  Temps will be in the 30s in the evening.  Nature should hold off on any new snow showers until after midnight.

Moving into Sunday morning, temperatures will still be close to 30 degrees so salt on roads will work despite some passing snow showers.  Back roads may see some patches of snow sticking to the road surface so keep an eye out Sunday morning.  The new snow brings a total of 1"-3" of snow between the Saturday morning round and the Sunday pre-dawn round for areas of southeast Ohio and higher elevation areas of Braxton, Nicholas and Webster counties in our viewing area.

Much colder air is going to move into the area on Sunday, with highs sticking around 33 degrees if not colder in the high terrain and areas of southeastern Ohio.  Passing snow showers will be seen with little or no accumulation in the lowlands with up to an inch of accumulation in the high terrain.  Winds will be stout, dropping wind chills well into the 20s.
