UPDATE: Child dies from accidental shooting in Elkview, WV

UPDATE:

The child victim in an accidental shooting in Kanawha County, WV has died, according to investigators.

Authorities said a 10-year-old boy shot the victim while target practicing over the weekend.  She was 9-years-old.

Investigators believe the shooting was an accident, they said.  No charges have been filed at this time.

According to a press release issued by the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office a shooting incident was reported to Metro 911 dispatchers around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec 22nd. 

The caller stated that a 9-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl were targeting practicing. The pair were using a 410 shotgun.

According to the press release, the call then stated to 911 dispatcher that the 10 year old girl somehow was shot and sustained injuries to her arm and chest. 

The 10 year old girl was transported to CAMC via ambulance. She was then taken to surgery.

There is no other update on her condition. 

Detectives with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office are continuing their investigation.

Dispatchers from Kanawha County, WV Metro 911 say a child , approximately 10 years in age, has been shot in the arm.

The incident happened Sunday, Dec. 22 just after 5:30 p.m. at a residence located at 3821 Pentrace Road in Elkview, WV 

There is no word on how the shooting happened. There is also no word on the child's condition.
