A mother and her children lost almost everything they own after an early morning house fire in Saint Albans, WV.  It happened along Abney Street just after 1:30 a.m.

Firefighters said they are trying to figure out where the fire started, but said the house was almost fully engulfed in flames when they got there.

A mother, her three children, and another family member were inside when it happened.  They managed to escape without injury.

There were no smoke detectors in the house, firefighters said.  This year alone, the Saint Albans Fire Department had passed out and installed more than 300 smoke detectors around town, firefighters said.  They aren't sure why the family didn't have any.

Right now, the fire is considered suspicious and the cause is under investigation, firefighters said.

There has been four fires within the city limits since Friday.

On Monday, an apartment fire on Cody Street left two families homeless.  The American Red Cross stepped in to help them.

The family on Abney Street is staying with relatives nearby.
