HUNTINGTON, WV -

Firefighters in Huntington, WV wanted to make sure they didn't have to deal with an avalanche of ice while fighting a fire at 2108 Enslow Ave on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Crews say when they arrived on scene they saw flames shooting through the roof of the home. However, if they opened a nearby hydrant water would spill out and create a huge ice obstacle.

Firefighters knew residents would have more ice to contend with and with the recent weather that was not a good option. Crews worked quickly and got the blaze under control using only the water in their trucks.

Also, they were able to get the residents of the home safely and there were no injuries

Fire crews in Huntington, WV tell WOWK the cause of the fire is under investigation and there is no word whether there were working smoke detectors in the home.
