UPDATE:

Bulk water distribution is back up and running at sites across Kanawha County following a controversy on Thursday.

Water Buffaloes were pulled from service Thursday after residents complained they smelled like crude MCHM.

Kanawha County Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Dale Petry says he got word Thursday of residents complaining some of the water in the water buffaloes smelled like licorice, the smell associated with MCHM.

He says West Virginia American Water officials told him the water buffaloes have been rinsed out and re-filled. They were not sanitized because water company officials said the original water tested at safe levels.

The water buffaloes are located at Clendenin Volunteer Fire Department, Crossings mall in Elkview and Riverside High School.
