Red Cross and state officials mobilizing for emergency water distribution

Posted: Updated:

The Red Cross has mobilized a large force of volunteers and vehicles to help assist in emergency management.  They are working with county emergency organizations, the state government and the National Guard to coordinate efforts.

The Red Cross has made arrangements to distrbute meals to site workers, and the state Emergency Operations Center has requested 100,000 heater meals. The Red Cross will help to deliver them as well. American Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles also have launched in five counties, with eight more on the way from other states.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office has called in deputies and other assets to help with emergency procedures.  Deputies will work 12 hours on and 12 hours off until the emergency status is lifted.  Eleven members of the Day Report Center have been committed to help distribute water around Kanawha County.
