ORIGINAL:

The University of Charleston announced they will be closed on Monday Jan. 12 due to the ongoing State of Emergency.

In a press release, The University said all activities on campus are canceled.  This includes the new student orientation planned for today.  The release says UC plans to open about 30 hours after the State of Emergency is lifted.

The extra time is for on-campus students to return to their dorms and to allow university personnel time to inspect equipment and make sure that it is in working condition.

About 60 UC students who needed to return to the campus early are staying at UC-Beckley's University Hall.

UC-Beckley and UC-Martinsburg remain open and will have classes as normal.
