WV Senate gets to work on several bills

Senate Bills 351 through 357 were introduced during the Jan. 15 regular session of the West Virginia Senate.

One particular bill of interest he introduced on Jan. 15, Senate Bill 355, would amend the Water Resources Protection and Management Act created in 2004.

Senate Majority Leader John Unger, D-Berkeley, said the act was created to develop and implement a state-wide water resource plan. He said the initial intent of the plan was to help parts of the state with increased competition and implement regulatory management plans.

The senate also recognized a resolution to designate Jan. 15 as "Crimes Victims" day at the Legislature.

All other bills heard were introduced, briefly explained, and assigned to the appropriate committees.

Senate Bill 355 was assigned to the committee on Natural Resources, which met at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Also during the floor session on Wednesday, the Education committee sent five bills to the committee on Economic Development and three were referred to the Energy, Industry and Mining committee. Twenty one bills were sent from the Government Organization committee to the committee on the Judiciary. Two bills were referenced from the Health and Human Resources committee to The Government Organization committee while four were sent to the Finance committee.

The committee on Labor referred two bills to the Judiciary committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure committee sent one bill to the Judiciary.
