ROANOKE, WV -

Go dancing at one of two West Virginia state parks the weekend of Jan. 24-26. A Ballroom and Latin Dance weekend is planned at Stonewall Resort and a Couples Country-Western Dance Weekend will be held at Pipestem Resort.

Both weekends are geared toward couples who have never tried salsa and waltz or country-western dance, but who wish to learn in a friendly, non-competitive setting. The weekends also are for those who are more experienced but looking to refine their skills.

Craig Giffin and WV Dance, Inc. will conduct two days of dance instruction and evening dances at Stonewall Resort. Mike Hager, general manager at Stonewall Resort, said guests will learn the salsa and waltz, while enjoying all the camaraderie and fun that goes with this group experience.

The Stonewall weekend begins Jan. 24, with evening lessons on beginner dance techniques and introductory salsa lessons. Intermediate lessons in Salsa will be offered for those more advanced. Later that evening, a dance party is planned where participants can practice or perfect their skills. Throughout the day Saturday, beginner and intermediate waltz lessons will be offered, as well as instruction on the East Coast Swing followed by ballroom dance party that evening.

The Ballroom and Latin Dance weekend package at Stonewall includes all dance instruction, overnight lodging Friday and Saturday nights and breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings.

For information or to make reservations at Stonewall, call 888-278-8150.

Karen Mudge and Eddie Bowles of Kickin' Kountry Couples, LLC are the dance instructors at Pipestem Resort's annual dance weekend. This duo provides "new" dance instruction Friday evening, open dancing both Friday and Saturday nights, and new dance sessions Saturday morning and afternoon.

Pipestem Activities Coordinator Kim Hawkins said the weekend has a following and that dancers who attend every year become West Virginia dance ambassadors.

"They welcome folks who want to attend, learn and become active by dancing," she said in a release.

The weekend package includes two nights lodging at McKeever Lodge, Saturday dinner, all instruction and open dance nights.

For information or reservations at Pipestem, call 304-466-1800.
