ELKVIEW, WV -

Despite assurances from some officials that the water is safe to drink many people are still opting to drink and cook with bottled water. Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority employees spent Tuesday at the Crossings Mall water distribution center in Elkview, WV.

They had to deal with extreme conditions. Wet boots and wet gloves sent employees searching for warmth inside their vehicles.
The crew was there to give the local volunteer fire department a break after several days of distribution.

"We are just kind of taking turns getting in and out of the trucks so we can warm up," said Jeff Broyles, with Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority.

The cases of water were covered in a layer of snow that fell throughout the morning.

People like Tony Belcher braved the roads to come out and fill up containers of water to use around the house. But it was a slow process as crews battled with freezing hoses.

"There are four lines and due to the cold weather we were only able to get one to work," said Jeff Cunningham.

The Elkview, WV distribution center will close at the end of the day Tuesday.

The Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department will operate from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.

The Nitro Police Department location will be handing out water Wednesday from noon to 6.

The Belle distribution center at the mouth of Witcher Creek will operate from 10 in the morning Wednesday until 6 p.m.
