On Wednesday, Jan. 22, a former Raleigh County Sheriff's Deputy learned his fate in a child abuse investigation.

Randy Burgess was suspended from the Sheriff's Department in Jan. 2013 after charges of child abuse were leveled.

Burgess was sentenced for domestic battery in front of Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick Wednesday. He was sentenced to 1 year of home confinement. He also was ordered to undergo counseling in order to see his daughter again, and he must spend 10 years on the child abuser registry. Burgess pleaded guilty to the charge back in Nov. 2013.

Burgess is still facing other charges connected to violating the terms of his bond. A grand jury indicted him on charges of fraud with an access device, breaking and entering and embezzlement. Those charges came from an investigation which involved the theft of gas cards from cruisers belonging to the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office. The alleged thefts happened after Burgess resigned from the sheriff's department in July 2013.
