WAYNE COUNTY, WV -

UPDATE:

Fire rescue crews had more than flames to battle at a fire in Wayne County, WV.

Crews tell 13News the cold weather caused problems as at least one fire hydrant froze. Additionally, the frozen road made getting to the fire very difficult. Fire fighters say their vehicles were stuck as the rural roads in that area were frozen over.

An ambulance that responded to the scene also had problems. The driver says the ambulance lost power and ended up in a ditch. A tow truck had to be called to the scene to tow the ambulance away.

ORIGINAL:

Wayne County 911 dispatchers tell 13News they received a call about a fire at Sherwood Drive and Spring Valley Drive just after 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan 24.

Several agencies were called to the scene to try and get the blaze under control. The responding agencies include volunteer fire departments from England Hill, Ceredo, Kenova and Lavalette.

Fire officials tell WOWK that the fire appears to have started in the chimney. Residents who were at home when the blaze broke out tried to get it under control using a fire hose. However, the hose was frozen.

Flames and smoke began to spread and 911 were called to the scene.

There is no word on how the fire started. Flames and smoke appear to have done extensive damage to the home.

We will bring you additional details as they become available.
