Finding a Family: April

Posted: Updated:

In this Finding A Family story, we meet 14-year-old April. We sat down with her at the Pottery Place in Charleston.

April was a little camera shy at first, but she opened up as the day went on.

"It's fun to be around April," CASA worker Doris Harper said. "She likes to play games, she likes to talk. She will want you to believe that she's shy but she's really not."

April loves watching Duck Dynasty, and all kinds of scary movies. She does well in school, likes math in particular, and joined the cooking club to try something new.

"Because I don't know how to cook something!" she said with a laugh.

She's learning, though.

"She likes to cook when she gets a chance and like to hang out in the kitchen," Harper said, "and she's very easy to get along with."

Right now April helps take care of 3 dogs and 3 cats and she'd like a family that's open to pets as well as give her guidance.

"She would like to be in a home that has good structure, moral influence, and give her some religious values.," Harper said

April imagines traveling and seeing the outdoors with her adoptive family.

"A family where I'm the only child or one or two kids that likes to do a bunch of things like hunting and fishing and stuff," April said.

She'd also like to go camping and have new adventures and a family to experience it all with her.
"She'd make a great addition for someone's family," Harper said.
