George Washington High School Boys’ Soccer honored after state title; receive national ranking

Members of the George Washington High School Boys' Soccer team was presented with a trophy from the Army National Guard Friday night during halftime of the boys' basketball game.

The Patriots earned their national ranking trophy after winning the W.V. State Class AAA Title in Boys' Soccer.

George Washington was one of ten high school boys soccer teams to receive this distinguished honor, according to a press release.

The Patriots were ranked number 21 in the country by Maxpreps. The company's headquarters are in California and they ranked 14,000 high school soccer teams nationwide.

"Working with the Army National Guard, MaxPreps is delighted to honor Coach Hopper and the George Washington Patriots as one of nation's elite high school boys' soccer teams," said President and Founder, Andy Beal. "We congratulate the coach, players and George Washington High School for a great season and earning the Army National Guard national ranking trophy.

The George Washington High School Patriots shutout Parkersburg High School 1-0 in the championship game to win their third state title (2007, 2011). They finished the 2013 season with a record of 24-0-1.

Hopper, according to the press release, was also named the National Federation Coaches Association Coach of the Year for West Virginia.
