The Ritchie County Board of Education has unanimously voted to suspend teacher David P. Weekly.
West Virginia State Police have arrested a Ritchie County High School teacher on sex crime charges in connection to a student.
State police arrested David P. Weekley, 43, of Pennsboro, and charged him with second degree sexual assault, first degree sexual abuse, and two counts of sexual abuse by a parent or custodian. Troopers received a complaint from a student who said Weekley performed oral sex on him in a closet in the school in Dec. 2013. The victim told state troopers that Weekley also fondled him in an unoccupied room at the school on Jan. 17. State Police Cpl. Brewer said Friday that Weekley is facing additional charges of sexual assault and sexual abuse involving a student, stemming from an incident last May involving a senior at Ritchie County High School. Weekley paid a $50,0000 bond in addition to his original $100,000 bond for the previous charges.
Cpl. Brewer said this is an ongoing investigation.
Ritchie County School Superintendent Edward T. Toman provided a statement to 12 News regarding Weekley's arrest: Administration is aware of the recent arrest and serious allegations concerning a professional employee of the Ritchie County Board of Education. Appropriate personnel action will be taken, and it is anticipated that I will make an initial personnel recommendation to the Board on March 10th. Because this matter involves personnel, I am unable to make any further comments. I will say, that both as the Superintendent and father of a child in our school system, we make every effort to keep our students safe from harm. I can assure you that the allegations will continue to be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action will be taken.
