    Alpha Natural Resources announced July 31 that 11 affiliated coal mines and other facilities in West Virginia could be idled by mid-October, potentially causing 1,100 to be laid off.

CROSS LANES, WV -

Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatchers say a truck hit a house on Friday, Feb. 28 just after 8 p.m. The accident occurred at 5070 Big Tyler Road in Cross Lanes, WV. 

Witnesses on scene tell wowktv.com the truck hit a gas meter and then hit the home. The homeowner was not hurt in the accident. However, he tells wowktv.com it sounded like an "explosion" when the accident occurred.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating the cause of the accident. According to investigators, the driver of truck appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the accident and may be facing DUI charges. 

Big Tyler Road was shut down while the gas company turned off gas to the home that was hit by the truck.

The roadway was reopened shortly after 9 p.m.
