    Alpha Natural Resources announced July 31 that 11 affiliated coal mines and other facilities in West Virginia could be idled by mid-October, potentially causing 1,100 to be laid off.

Crews responded to a four vehicle accident in Ashland, KY.

According to dispatchers, it happened in the area of 18th Street and Winchester Avenue at 11:43 a.m. Saturday, March 1.

A witness at the scene says that a female driving a black vehicle ran a light at 18th Street going west on Winchester Avenue, hitting a red vehicle head-on, then hit a parked car, causing the red car to bounce, which hit a tan Chevrolet TrailBlazer.

Dispatchers say the female was taken to the hospital with only minor injuries.  No other injuries were reported.

The scene was cleared at 12:43 p.m.

The Ashland Police Department is investigating.
