Drivers can file claim affidavits for vehicles damaged by potholes

CHARLESTON, West Virginia -

Pothole damage continues to trouble vehicles across the area. For drivers in the city of Charleston, they have an option to file an affidavit through the city clerk's office.

As bad as the winter has been for the roads, the clerk's office said they've had only ten claims filed to them this winter. Even all those aren't necessarily all pothole related.

However, in the last meeting on Monday they had six alone. Here's some of the points the clerk's office gives when filling out an affidavit.

- Pictures of damage to your vehicle and an estimate from a body shop will help the process.

- When the city clerks office turns your paperwork into the third party administrator you will get a decision in no more than 14 days. Unlike claims through the state as they can take up to a year.
