SAINT ALBANS, WV -

A woman is behind bars, charged with the theft of more than $6,000 worth of jewelry from a St. Albans store.

According to a news release issued by the St. Albans Police Department, employees at the K-Mart in St. Albans watched a woman remove several pieces of jewelry from a display case.  Officers said they could clearly see her place the items in her purse.

The release goes on to state that the woman attempted to flee the store, but employees blocked her way.  She fled through the store and left through a rear door where she was apprehended by responding officer, according to the release.

The suspect was then identified as 23-year-old Sarah E. Hanson, of St. Albans.  She was charged with felony Grand Larceny.  K-Mart employees from that store told officers that they suspect Hanson has stolen from other K-Mart stores in the region.

Hanson is being held at South Central Regional Jail on $5,000 bond.
