Two men are in jail on arson charges in St. Albans, WV.

According to a news release issued by the St. Albans Police Department, Daniel L. Ferrell, 33, and Jameson D. Edwards, 26, both from St. Albans, were arrested Friday, March 7 and have both been charged with first degree arson.

The news release says both police and fire crews responded to a call of some boxes being on fire near a 500 pound propane tank at the rear of Kroger at the St. Albans Mall Shopping Center along MacCorkle Avenue at 8:14 p.m. Friday.

The fire, which was quickly put out, consisted of eight to ten cardboard boxes being burnt.

According to the news release, a Kroger Loss Prevention Associate told police of the possible suspects, Ferrell and Edwards, walking west from Kroger, after which police quickly detained and arrested them.

The news release says when police searched them, they found several knives and Bic lighters.

When both Ferrell and Edwards made statements to police, Edwards admitted to stealing a can of beer from Kroger and fled the store with it after he was asked for ID to purchase it shortly before the fire. The news release goes on to say that Ferrell admitted to setting the fire in front of Edwards, which was confirmed to police after they watched the store's surveillance video.

Both Ferrell and Edwards are being held in the South Central Regional Jail.

Ferrell's bond was set at $1,000. Edwards, along with being charged with first degree arson, also had an outstanding family court capias for child support, and is being held without bond.
