A wanted fugitive out of two different states is in jail for holding a man at knifepoint in Charleston, WV.

According to a criminal complaint issued by the Kanawha County Magistrate Court, John W. Barta, 42, was arrested for kidnapping on Saturday, March 8.

The complaint says that Barta was staying with John Thurmond at a hotel room at the Knights Inn, at 6401 MacCorkle Avenue, in which Thurmond wanted to leave the room, when Barta became irate, and placed a knife to his throat, holding him against his will for two hours.

Thurmond was able to eventually escape and called 911.  Barta was arrested by the Charleston Police Department.

Barta, who is wanted in both Indiana and Virginia on charges of kidnapping and violation of probation, is being held in the South Central Regional Jail.
