As our state's business leaders gather at The Greenbrier this week for the 2014 West Virginia Business Summit, we hope they have a sense of urgency and realize what they must do to bring this state into the 21st century.

The images from Ferguson, Missouri, look like snapshots from a war zone. We still don't know why city police officer Darren Wilson killed Michael Brown, but we do know the fallout shines a glaring light on what happens when scores of people are disconnected from the American Dream.

A taste of the Big Easy is coming to West Virginia this summer.

The Greenbrier Resort will be the site of preseason training camp for the NFL's New Orleans Saints. The Crescent City is a wonderful place for so many reasons — great food, never-stopping nightlife and wonderful music — but mid-August in Louisiana is generally a hot, steamy mess. Players and coaches will likely find welcome relief in White Sulphur Springs, and the Mountain State will be fortunate to have them here.

Not only will this generate plenty of press coverage, it will offer one more way to showcase one of this state's crown jewels.

Saints Head Coach Sean Payton got familiar with the resort last summer when he caddied for friend and PGA pro golfer Ryan Palmer at The Greenbrier Classic. Credit goes to Greenbrier owner Jim Justice for having the vision to make this happen. It may be unorthodox, but thinking outside the box is smart and this will surely get the resort on the radar screen of some who might not otherwise consider it.

Showcasing West Virginia means reaching out to many different audiences and letting them see this state for what it is, not how we might be defined outside our borders. This is a great way to do just that. As the Saints personnel make their way to Greenbrier County, we need to make certain they know we're happy to count them in our number.
