Ohio House to vote on $2.4B construction budget

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The OhioHouse is set to vote on a nearly $2.4 billion state construction budget thatfunds a host of community, school, park and prison projects.

The proposal up for a vote Wednesday directs $675 million toward primary andsecondary schools and $450 million toward public colleges and universities forrepairs, renovations and new buildings.

Another $574 million goes for maintenance, renovation and cost-savingprojects at state-owned facilities, including parks and prisons.

Local road, bridge, sewer and other infrastructure projects would get $369million. An additional $100 million goes to the Clean Ohio green space preservationprogram.

Gov. John Kasich's (KAY'-siks) administration estimates that projects fundedunder the bill would create 31,000 jobs over several years.

A Senate committee plans to start hearings on the measure Wednesday.
