Wayne County, WV school has some WESTEST scores dismissed

Posted: Updated:

The Wayne County Board of Education announced that Crum Elementary School had one set of tests in one grade were invalidated because of suspected cheating.

A release from the Wayne County BOE says that an investigation by the West Virginia Board of Education (WVBOE) and a third party was launched into the test bubble forms after several forms appeared to have a large number of eraser marks.

The WVBOE said it found enough evidence to invalidate scores for one set of tests in one grade but not enough proof that cheating took place.

The WVBOE said it will leave any further action up to the superintendent and the Wayne County BOE.

The release also says that parents of students in that grade will receive letters about the situation.

The actions of the board will not be reflected in any student records but will most likely result in Crum Elementary's status as a "Success School" being reduced.
