Power outages reported throughout tri-state

Posted: Updated:

Several people have been without power throughout the tri-state Saturday.

According to Phil Moye with American Electric Power, 7,047 customers are reported to be without power in Kanawha County, specifically in the areas of Big Chimney, Elkview, and Clendenin, 762 customers in Wayne County, 252 customers in Cabell County, and 302 customers in Roane County.

Phil Moye told 13 News the reason for the power outages in Kanawha County are due to a transmission line that went out at around 8:25 p.m.  AEP crews are out working on the problem, and the estimated time for repair is not yet known.

Moye also said the outages in Wayne County are due to an equipment problem that occurred at around 3 p.m., which initially caused over 3,000 customers to be without power, as well as a tree that went onto a power line in the Fort Gay area.  According to Moye, the only customers without power now in Wayne are the ones living in Fort Gay.  Power was restored to all other Wayne County customers at around 9:30 p.m.

There is no word yet on what caused the other power outages, or the estimated time for repair for these outages.
