For the ninth consecutive year, Arch Coal has been selected among the 2014 InformationWeek Elite 100, which ranks the nation's most innovate users of business technology.

According to InformationWeek Editor in Chief Rob Preston, the rankings highlight companies that are reshaping industries, redefining business models and leading the digital business revolution.

Arch Coal was recognized for applying technology in pursuit of continuous improvement across its national network of mining operations.

"Applying data mining technology helps Arch Coal work toward our ultimate goal of ‘A Perfect Zero' in safety and environmental compliance," said David E. Hartley, Arch Coal's vice president and chief information officer. "We're deploying technology that facilitates efficient data collection and rapid analysis of trends to support a culture of prevention.

"Our strategic effort to couple information technology with our key performance indicators allows Arch to do more with less in a challenging business environment."

St. Louis-based Arch Coal ranked 64. The 2014 list marks InformationWeek's 26th year of compiling the list. InformationWeek Elite 100 research tracks the technology-based investments, strategies and results of some of the best-known organizations in the country.
