Tyson Foods Inc .voluntarily recalls chicken nugget products

According to a press release issued by the U.S. Department of  Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Tyson Foods Inc., a business based in Sedalia, Missouri is recalling over 75,000 pounds of fully cooked chicken nugget products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials.

The products were shipped to Sam's Club distribution centers nationwide and in Puerto Rico in late January and in February, according to information released by the company. 

The following Tyson Food Inc. products are now subject to the recallL:
  • 5-lb. bags of "Tyson Fully Cooked White Meat Chicken Nuggets - 16142-928" with a "Best if Used By" date of "Jan 26 2015" or Feb 16 2015." The manufacturer codes "0264SDL0315 through 19" and "0474SDL0311 through 14" can also be found on the bags. These products were produced Jan. 26, 2014 or Feb. 16, 2014 and shipped nationwide to one retail warehouse club chain. 
  • 20-lb. bulk packs of "Spare Time Fully Cooked Nugget-Shaped Chicken Breast Pattie Fritters w/Rib Meat - 16142-861" with identifying case codes of "0264SDL0315 through 19" and "0474SDL0311 through 14." These products were produced Jan. 26 and Feb. 16, 2014 and were shipped for institutional use in Indiana and Arkansas. The product bags bear the establishment number "P-13556."
The problem was discovered after the company received customer complaints that small pieces of plastic were found in the products. It was traced to a product scraper inside a blending machine, according to the same press release. Some customers who ingested this product apparently suffered minor oral injuries. There were no other severe injuries associated with this recall that were reported to USDA officials.

If a consumer has a bag of affected product, they should discard the product, cut the UPC and date code from the back of the bag and mail it to the following address for a full refund:Tyson Foods – CP631P.O. Box 2020 Springdale, AR  72765-9989, according to information released by the company.

Tyson Food Inc., says in a separate release, they have inspected production facility to ensure product quality standards are being met and have put in place corrective measures at all of the company's facilities to prevent anything similar from happening.
