PIKE COUNTY, KY. -

A child injured in a two-car crash on Thursday, April 3 in the Shelbiana community of Pike County, KY has died as result of injuries she sustained in that accident.

According to a press release issued by the Kentucky State Police they reconstructed the accident that occurred on U.S. 460 on Friday , April 4th.

It was determined the driver of the first vehicle involved Katherine J. Kilgore was traveling westbound on U.S. 460 when she pulled up to a stopped vehicle. Kilgore attempted to avoid the stopped vehicle and crossed over in to the eastbound lames of U.S. 460.

Kilgore struck a vehicle headed eastbound on U.S. 460. The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash has been identified as Dedra Fouts of Virgie, Kentucky. Fouts and second unidentified passenger in the car were injured. They were taken to Pikeville Medical Center. A child, identified as Kyla Fouts, was also injured in the crash and taken to Johnson City Medical Center via helicopter to be treated for her injuries.

On Friday, April 4, Kentucky State Police confirmed that Kyla Fouts died as a result of injuries she sustained in the crash. She was pronounced dead at Johnson City Medical Center. 

The accident investigation is continuing at this time. Kentucky State Police have not said whether Kilgore, the driver of the first vehicle involved will face any charges.

She was taken to Pikeville Medical Center to be treated for her injuries.
