Charleston, WV family has close ties to University of Kentucky basketball

[image] Joe and Joey Holland both played for the University of Kentucky's basketball team and have strong ties to the school's program.

Kentucky basketball runs in the Holland bloodlines. Joey's father, Joe played and was part of the University of Kentucky's first-ever national championship 1947 to 1948.

Joey also played on the team during the from 1973 to1977.

After Joe's passing in 2010, Joey was going to put the house up for sale until his son decided to buy it instead. With the purchase of the home, he decided to do some renovations on the home. Part of those renovations was transforming the basement to honor University of Kentucky basketball and his grandfather.

"He would be touched, I'm sure.  He would be very glad his grandson honored him and bought the house. I'm sure he would be thrilled," Joey Holland.

Among all the University of Kentucky memorabilia in this basement, what father and son most enjoy is this huge picture of Joe Holland.

"It's the centerpiece of the basement, and it was the least I could do to honor him," Brett Holland.
