WINFIELD, WV -

A local animal shelter received a new horse shed on Friday. The Putnam County animal shelter, which recently opened a new facility, plans to use the new shed to house any type of livestock including horses, cows and pigs.

Leftover donations from money used to build the shelter were used to purchase the new shed. The West Virginia Department of Agriculture loaned horse panels to the shelter until workers could build the permanent enclosure. "When we were at the old location, we would have to rely on volunteers to allow us to hold an animal on their property until we would go to court. This makes it a lot easier for us," said Jon Davis, Chief Humane Officer.

Davis said when humane officers need to transport the animal, they can bring them right to the location at the shelter and take care of them. Right now the shelter is housing three horses for pending court cases.
