UPDATE: Clendenin, WV man says he killed another man with his handgun in self-defense

CLENDENIN, WV -

UPDATE:

13 News has learned the identity of the individual who was brandishing an ax and who was shot to death.  He has been identified as Robert Parsons.

According to information from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, the shooter was Timothy Copen.

Investigators say Parsons was attacking the vehicle of a relative of Copen with an ax. Copen claims he came outside to speak with Parsons and that he was coming up to him.  Copen then pulled out his handgun and shot Parsons.

Authorities questioned Copen at the scene but released him.  They say he has been cooperative and has not been charged with anything at this time.

Deputies remain on scene as the investigation continues.

Deputies in Kanawha County, WV have released additional information on a homicide that took place Sunday, April 6 around 12:30 p.m.

According to deputies on scene, Metro 911 in Kanawha County, WV received multiple calls that a man was chasing another man with an ax.  The male being chased was the one making calls. He then called back in and stated he had shot the person who was chasing him with an ax.

Deputies responded to 707 Robinson Road and found the shooting victim lying dead. Several witnesses have spoken to deputies. The investigation is continuing at this time.

Deputies with Kanawha County Sheriff's office have confirmed this is a homicide. Deputies say they plan to release additional information shortly.

Metro 911 dispatchers in Kanawha County confirm that the sheriff's office along with West Virginia State Police are responding to a shooting at 707 Robinson Street.

The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6.

Details on the shooting are still coming in to the newsroom.
