UPDATE: Suspect in Huntington, WV shooting now faces murder charges after victim dies

The victim of a Huntington, WV shooting that occurred back on Sunday, April 6 has died. 

According to a news release issued by Huntington Police, Raymond Eugene Thomas, 24 , of Detroit died at a local hospital. He succumbed to his injuries sustained after being shot in the head in the 1700 block of Monroe Avenue.

Huntington Police say Anthony J. Gaston, 22, also of Detroit is now charged with murder.

He was booked in to the Western Regional Jail on attempted murder charges shortly after the April 6 shooting occurred. 


A second person was arrested in connection to the Huntington, WV shooting that occurred on Sunday, April 6.

According to a criminal complaint issued by the Cabell County Magistrate Court, 33-year-old Angel Marie Lucas was arrested Wednesday, April 9, and was charged with two counts of wanton endangerment.

Lucas is being held in the Western Regional Jail on a $100,00 bond.

She will have a preliminary hearing on April 17.



Police have released the identity of a man who was shot in Huntington, WV on April 6.

Raymond Eugene Thomas Jr., from Detroit, was shot during an altercation with another man, police believe.

Thomas is in critical condition.



A man is behind bars for a shooting Sunday afternoon in Huntington, WV, according to a press release issued by the Huntington Police Department. 

Anthony J. Gaston, 22, of Detroit was arrested and charged with attempted murder for his involvement in a shooting in the 1700 block of Monroe Avenue. 

Prior to the 4:00 p.m. shooting, Huntington police said there were several vehicles speeding through the neighborhood. Police believe the individuals in the vehicles were involved in some type of dispute.

The vehicles eventually stopped in the alley behind Monroe Avenue where the shooting happened. Gaston got out of one of the vehicles, according to the release.  He then was involved in a scuffle with two other passengers inside a late-model black Chevrolet Malibu. 

Gaston at some point pulled out a rifle and fired a shot into the black Chevrolet Malibu hitting the victim. He has been identified only as man, who may from Detroit.

The driver of the black Chevrolet Malibu was also armed. She fired a gun at Gaston but he fled the scene. Gaston tried to hide at a nearby basketball court but was found and arrested by Huntington police.

All of the weapons used by the suspect and those involved in this incident were recovered. 

The name of the victim will be released once the next of kin has been notified. 

The investigation is continuing at this time.


Huntington Police are investigating a shooting at that occurred just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 6 in the 1700 block of Monroe Avenue.

Police say one person was shot in the head. 

One person has been taken into custody. Police have not released the name of this individual.

Neighbors tell 13News a jeep-like vehicle fled the scene immediately after the shooting.  Witnesses say several people were inside that vehicle.

Police have not said if they are looking for additional suspects.
