UPDATE: Land owner responds to families receiving eviction notices at a Shrewsbury, WV trailer park home

Lacynda Moore has been leasing out the land at Royal Mobile Home Park. She reached out to 13 News in response to a story we did on the residents receiving eviction notices. Here is her statement:

"My lease has expired, and landowners have chosen not to renew the lease. We have previously had problems with collecting rent from tenants. I do have a lot of faithful renters and I am truly sorry they have to vacate the property. I spoke to the landowners this morning, and they say I can give another 90 days, which gives them 6 months to relocate. I have told several tenants I will help in any way. 

I seem to be the bad person according to Facebook and Topix.com in the Cedar Grove area. Some people have even posted they would not want to be me walking around with a target on my back. Anybody that truly knows me knows that I do have a heart. I truly apologize for any inconvenience. My own daughter has to relocate."

Lacynda also tells WOWK 13 News that renters owe her about $26,000 in back rent.  There are about 70 tenants that live in this community.

It's only a piece of paper, but the eviction notice Sue Lynn Pomeroy received last month turned her life upside down. It stated she needed to move out of Royal Mobile Home Park by the end of June.

"I have cried, I have not eaten, and I had to go to the doctor the other day to get a stress test," said Pomeroy.

More than 100 people live in this community in Shrewsbury, WV. The notice gave tenants 90 days to leave. Neighbors say that's not enough time, especially for the elderly and disabled.

"Here I am handicapped," said Pomeroy. "I just don't know what I would do without my fiance or daughter." Pomeroy and her family have started packing their clothes and dishes into boxes. She said it will probably cost around $1,000 to move, and she's not even sure if her home will make the trip.

"They don't have wheels, they don't have axles, some of them are bent, some aren't even moving," said Patty Selbe, who lives in the trailer park. 

Neighbors say leaving their trailer park isn't only a financial burden. Many have lived in the community for over a decade and are sad to leave family and friends behind.

"It's heartbreaking, and I've lived down here my whole life," said Sierra Lowery, "My whole childhood was down here and now I've got to find a place to go."

The eviction notice states tenants still have to pay their rent for the next three months. It is not clear what Twin Hills Incorporated will do to the property once the tenants leave.
