Jim Johnson sworn in as interim chief of Huntington Police Department

HUNTINGTON, WV -

Jim Johnson was sworn in as interim police chief with the Huntington Police Department on Monday afternoon.  Mayor Steve Williams has appointed a 10-person citizen committee to assist in the search for a new police chief.

Johnson's transition into the interim chief role was fairly standard.  He spent much of his first day meeting with officers and staff. "I've met with the command staff we've had a couple of meetings.  I was at role call this morning with day shift, the detective bureau and administrative bureau," said Johnson.  He also planned to be out on midnight shift tonight to talk with them.

Johnson is no stranger to police work.  He has served the Huntington Police Department for 29 years.  Johnson's grandfather was also an officer with the Huntington Police Department, who also served as interim chief during his tenure.
