A Kanawha County man who produced and possessed sexually explicit images of children has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

Stephen Wayne Laton Jr., 40, was caught in February 2013 with images and videos of children in pornographic situations, including a video of a minor, a female relative, which he had shot himself, U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said.

Laton, who appeared before U.S. District Judge John To Copenhaver Jr. in Charleston, faces up to 20 years in prison at his Aug. 6 sentencing. His case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and West Virginia State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Rada prosecuted.
