The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is looking into a brief leak of more than a pound of methylamines, known as DMAC, from the DuPont plant in Belle April 21.

The DEP said it could not definitively confirm whether or not the leak would was harmful to the public, but the leak had been stopped.

A tank at the Eastern Kanawha County plant became pressurized and was released through a valve or vent, as vapor, according to information the WV DEP said it received from DuPont.

DEP's emergency response team is working with DuPont to determine how exactly the leak occurred.

Metro 911 received the original call of an alarm at the plant shortly before 5 p.m.
