    Alpha Natural Resources announced July 31 that 11 affiliated coal mines and other facilities in West Virginia could be idled by mid-October, potentially causing 1,100 to be laid off.

SUTTON, WV - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Sutton Lake Marina and the WV Dept. of Environmental Protection are looking for volunteers to help clean up the area around Sutton Lake in Sutton, WV.

The cleanup will be 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on May 3.

Volunteers can register before the event or starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Bee Run launch ramp on the morning of the event.

Organizers will provide gloves and bags for volunteers.

The event will be capped off with a picnic and cookout at the Bee Run day use area.
