Group Says Proposed Hancock County Smoking Ban Will Devastate Economy
Hancock County, W.Va. -
The Hancock County smoking ban war wages on - with many people speaking out against the proposed clean air act saying it will devastate the county's economy.
A group called "No. 2 the Ban" has started a public information campaign that it hopes will influence the county health board's final decision. Members of the coalition said the proposed ban will not only affect the Mountaineer Racetrack and Casino, but also gas stations, cafes and other organizations that depend on the casino traffic.
Hancock County is one of the last counties in West Virginia to ban smoking in public places, but recently, officials have been discussing a possible rule change. The draft being discussed could ban smoking in all enclosed public places.
