Marshall University hosts ceremony for Memorial Fountain

HUNTINGTON, WV - It has been more than five months since the Memorial Fountain at Marshall University was turned off for the winter.

But Saturday, April 26, with the warm weather and spring football scrimmage planned, the fountain was turned back on.

It's a memorial for the 75 people who died in the Marshall football team plane crash in 1970.

Marshall football's Head Coach Doc Holiday said the backing of the community, so many years after the crash, is incredible.

"I've said many times that it's just amazing the passion and the enthusiasm our school, our community and our fan base have," Holiday said. "You don't understand it until you're here and you be a part of it."

The fountain will remain turned on until November 14, which is the anniversary of the plane crash.
