CHARLESTON, WV - Over the past month there have been several shootings on the West Side of Charleston.  On Saturday morning, that side of town literally took to the streets to clean up the city.

Nearly 200 volunteers signed up to clean up the city which will in turn help clean up the image of the West Side.

"We really think it will. We hope it will and that's just one step," said Ron Stoner, the West Side Neighborhood Association Chairman.

"People love the West Side even though you may not live here you're part of the community, and you really love it and just want to help," said Amanda Ware, a volunteer.

With days like today, the West Side is taking those baby steps to throw out the negative image.

Over 200 bags of trash were collected. On top of that, fourteen recycled materials were collected.
