In the Mountain State, there are more than 30 community foundations, affiliates and area funds created by local residents who give generous resources.

A national campaign, “Give Local America,” is sure to impact nearly 15 counties in the state by creating more of a reason to help local non-profits in the state.

“Community Foundations serve as partners in a majority of West Virginia’s counties in small and big ways,” said Paul D. Daugherty, president and CEO of Philanthropy, WV. “The ‘Give Local America’ campaign taking place on May 6 brings many people together to give for local benefit.”

Philanthropy

, WV is a statewide association for private, family, corporate, public and community foundations.

The 24-hour “Give Local America” campaign results in the matching of every private charitable donation made ($10 minimum) to identified charities in that region.

The two regional campaigns are being coordination in the Northern Panhandle by the Community Foundation of the Ohio Valley and across the Mid-Ohio Valley into central West Virginia by Our Community’s Foundation: Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and Regional Affiliates.

“Our goal is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the community foundation movement by bringing many people together to give,” said Judy Sjostedt, PACF’s executive director. “We want to showcase our region’s spirit of giving, while raising awareness about the valuable services of our nonprofit partners.”

In this time when more is being required with fewer resources, we hope that Give Local MOV generates unrestricted gifts for our area's nonprofit partners from Wood, Ritchie, Doddridge, Gilmer, Jackson, Mason, and surrounding communities, she added.

“The Amazing Raise Ohio Valley is a 24-hour online giving challenge,” said Susie Nelson, executive director of the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley. “Non-profit's across the northern panhandle of West Virginia do tremendous things for our citizens and communities this day is one of giving to celebrate the non-profit's in our community and a chance to raise thousands of dollars to make our community even better.”

“Every citizen can AMPLIFY the impact of their giving whether it is $10 or $1,000 toward this 24 hour campaign as it leverages additional support through local sponsor matches and special prizes,” Daugherty added. “We invite our neighbors from Hancock to Mason counties from Wood to Gilmer Counties to give at a level that is comfortable for them as it energizes charitable giving that stays local and makes life better for the people served by these hardworking non-profit's and programs.”
