WEIRTON - UPDATE:

On Wednesday authorities announced that an arrest was made after chemical explosives were discovered around the Weirton City Building earlier this month. David Jared Patterson, 23, was arrested on Wednesday.

He is being charged at the state level and then at the federal level on initial charges of three counts of criminal use of an explosive device. He will be arraigned in Hancock County Magistrate Court later this week.

ORIGINAL STORY:

An investigation is under way after chemical explosives were discovered around the Weirton City Building on Monday night.

According to Weirton Police Chief Bruce Marshall, the discovery was made around 11 p.m. Monday, when chemical explosive devices were found at several locations around the building and under a police cruiser. Police arrived on the scene and defused the devices. Police also reported the suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

FBI agents arrived in Weirton on Wednesday to pick up the evidence for lab work. Officials report no more details will be released due to the ongoing investigation.
