West Virginia State Police out of Braxton County were called to the scene of a report of a person claiming to be God had broken into a home and stole a vehicle in the Flatwoods area.

Troopers later located the suspect, identified as James Maciak of Napier, WV. When troopers approached Maciak he stated that he was God and ordered the trooper to give him his vehicle, and when the trooper refused, Maciak started cursing at the trooper. Maciak was then arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Troopers spoke with Lance Larone, who told troopers Maciak had entered his residence without permission in Flatwoods and punched him once in the face, and after searching Maciak, Larone's cell phone was found on his person. Larone also told troopers that Maciak had arrived in a black Chevrolet SUV, which was later discovered to have belonged to Timothy Meadows.

West Virginia State Police later took a statement from Meadows saying that Maciak had broken into his home by kicking in the front door, and started beating him while he was asleep in bed, and that Maciak grabbed a pistol belonging to Meadows and pointed it at him. Meadows then wrestled the gun away, and after doing so, Maciak reached for a rifle and pointed it at Meadows and demanded his vehicle, and then stole his cell phone and $50, which were also found in Maciak's possession.

Troopers also took a statement from a third victim, Raymond Teter, saying Maciak had attempted to force his way into his residence, and stole a Mercury vehicle belonging to a Stacey Robinson.

Maciak has been charged with armed robbery, grand larceny, and nighttime burglary, and is being held in the Central Regional Jail.
