CHARLESTON, WV - A man is in jail on child abuse charges out of South Charleston, WV.

According to a criminal complaint issued by the Kanawha County Magistrate Court, 42-year-old Eric Dewayne Richmond was arrested Saturday, May 10, and was charged with four counts of child abuse, as well as one count of malicious wounding.

The complaint says that at 12 p.m. Friday, May 9, Richmond struck a male juvenile, who is the son of Richmond's girlfriend, several times with a black leather belt.  The juvenile victim, who went to the South Charleston Police Department with his biological father to file this complaint, told police Richmond choked him and made him get undressed, in which Richmond struck him on several parts of his body, leaving bruises and contusion marks, which according to the complaint, are consistent with the pattern of the belt the victim described to police.

The victim also told police this happened after Richmond picked him up from school after he was suspended.
