Dunbar, WV teacher receives letter of thanks

Posted: Updated:

A thank you letter that was sent to the wrong address and addressed to the wrong name somehow made it to the hands of the proper person hundreds of miles away in Dunbar, WV.

Leslie Papelier is a teacher at Dunbar Primary in Kanawha County.

She started her teaching career in Atlanta, GA.

On Friday she received a letter from Paul Kim, a student she had in a kindergarten class during her first year as a teacher. He is graduating from high school this month and wanted to say thank you.

Kim sent the handwritten letter to Ocee Elementary School in Fulton, GA addressed to Papelier's maiden name Rinehart. A teacher at Ocee tracked her down in West Virginia.

"I was just doing my job," Papelier said. "That it means that much to a student that is pretty much what hit home for me.

Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week.

Papelier said several other teachers at the school also received letters and cards.

Kim will be graduating from Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology. He will attend Pomona College in the fall.
