SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV - UPDATE:

According to Detective Gordon with the South Charleston Police Department, the autopsy was completed Thursday, May 15, on the male body that was found in the Kanawha River Wednesday, May 14.

Detective Gordon says it is believed the victim is an elderly male, and that it is believed he had been in the Kanawha River for weeks.  Gordon also says the victim's identity is believed to be known, however, further investigation will continue to ensure the identity of the victim is confirmed so his family can be notified.

So far in the investigation, no evidence of foul play has been found.  The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE:

Emergency crews removed the body of a male from the Kanawha River.  The victim's identity is not yet known.

The body was taken to a medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Crews were staged along Dunbar Avenue. The South Charleston Police Department, who responded to the scene, is handling the investigation, because the river itself is in South Charleston's jurisdiction.

Along with the South Charleston Police Department, the South Charleston Fire Department, Dunbar Fire Department, and Kanawha County EMS responded to the scene.

Crews are on the scene where a body was found in the Kanawha River in South Charleston, WV.

According to dispatchers, the call came in shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, in the area of 40 Dunbar Avenue at Huck Finn's Restaurant & Bar.

Dispatchers say it is not yet clear as to what happened and the victim's identity is not yet known.
