HURRICANE, WV -

A dangerous intersection in Hurricane, West Virginia has been giving drivers headaches for several years.  It's the notorious Route 60 and Sycamore Road intersection.

"It's a bad intersection, real bad," said Birdie Marcum of Hurricane.

"The first thing that comes to my mind is how many wrecks...I have seen in the last 27 years," said Linda Fry of Hurricane.

"They have close calls everyday and wrecks weekly. It's a very dangerous intersection," said Ronald Crouch of Hurricane.

Just yesterday, Birdie Marcum's daughter was a victim of the intersection.

"My daughter had a three-car wreck yesterday and it totaled her van," said Marcum.

As you go down Sycamore Road, the first home belongs to the Fry's. They've been there nearly 30 years and have had their share of close calls and accidents at the intersection.

"It's too busy of an intersection. You've got you got Exxon, Speedway, Hurricane Tire, Sycamore. you got 60, you have people coming from main street," said Fry.

There is a speed limit near the intersection telling people to go 40 mph but people that frequent that area say that simply isn't enough.

"There's a lot of traffic down here and they really need to put a red light there," said Crouch

We do need a stop light here, not a four-way stop sign, but a stop light," said Marcum

And for Birdie, who lost a best friend at this interaction, approaching the scene yesterday with her daughter already in the ambulance sent chills down her spine.

"I cried. It was hard on me because I thought I lost her too so when I saw that I just went to pieces," said Marcum.

A new gas station is being built near the intersection and that is expected to bring even more traffic. Some residents are optimistic that will bring them a traffic light at the intersection.
