The Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour made a one-day stop in Charleston June 9, as the Kanawha Boulevard was packed with cars and fans of hot rods.

It is the 20th anniversary year of the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour, but its first visit in the Mountain State.

The "seven cities in seven days" tour visited Concord, N.C., Knoxville, Tenn. over the weekend, with more stops scheduled in Norwalk, Ohio, Crown Point, Ind., Bettendorf, Iowa and Wisconsin Dells, Wis. coming this week.

About 3,500 hot rods, muscle cars, custom trucks and performance cars are displayed. It is a free event for spectators that will last from noon-7 p.m.

Jeff Dahlin, publisher of Hot Rod Magazine, said that over the seven-day tour, an estimated 80,000 attendees will take in "the world's largest traveling car show."

“We've wanted to bring the tour to West Virginia for a while," Dahlin said. "It’s one of our best venues, right along the waterfront.”

Alisa Bailey, president of the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau, estimated that the event will have an $850,000 economic impact for the area.
