Several Wayne County, WV schools conducting camps, classes, and maintenance this summer

WAYNE COUNTY, WV - Along with summer school, several schools in Wayne County, WV are hosting camps this summer and will be having fresh paint and repairs installed.

According to a news release issued by the Wayne County Board of Education, students at Tolsia High School, Wayne Middle School, and Vinson Middle School will be attending summer school, where they will be making up classes, as well as earning additional credit to move to the next grade.  Their schedules are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will last until July 3.

The news release says that elementary schools are also hosting kindergarten transition camps for students who will be in kindergarten next year. For example, Wayne Elementary have already held it's program on June 2-6, and Kellogg Elementary will finish its four-day camp on Thursday, June 12.

Other Wayne County schools who will be having camps this summer include:

-Kenova Elementary, from Monday
to Friday, June 16-20

-Genoa Elementary, from June 23-27.

-Buffalo Elementary, from Wednesday, July 23 to Thursday, July 31.

-Fort Gay PK-8, from Tuesday, July 29, to Thursday, July 31.

-Lavalette Elementary, from Tuesday, July 29, to Thursday, July 31.

-East Lynn Elementary is hosting a science camp from Monday, June 23, to Thursday, July 3, excluding Friday, June 27.  The news release says this will include hands-on fun with FOSS Science Kits and LEGO Robotics, as well as a trip to COSI in Charleston. This camp is full.

-Dunlow Elementary is hosting a mission camp Monday through Friday,  from July 21 to July 25. It will be conducted by the same Christian-based group that helped raise funds for and organize the school’s new library that opened in August of 2013.  According to the news release, the group will complete small painting projects, organize the library, and help with a FOSS Science Kits-based camp for students. A community barbecue will also be held at the school on Thursday evening of July 24.

Several students will also take part in national competitions in June and July, including the HOSA Leadership Conference in Orlando, FL, as well as SkillsUSA in Kansas City, MO, and West Virginia Governor’s Academies and Schools.

Also, the news release says that school facilities are getting fresh paint and repairs. Among these include new roofs at Prichard (completed) and Genoa elementary schools, as well as fresh paint both inside and out at Ceredo-Kenova Middle School, and the installation of a covered walkway at East Lynn Elementary.
